The Uganda Consulate Mombasa has announced that the Uganda–Kenya Coast Collaboration was presented with the Cross-Border Coastal Tourism Resilience Award during the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Awards held on February 17, 2026 at Safari Park in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event, hosted at Safari Park Hotel, brought together global tourism stakeholders to recognize institutions and leaders demonstrating outstanding performance in tourism resilience, conservation, sustainable development, crisis preparedness, safety and recovery initiatives.
The Chief Guest at the ceremony was Rebecca Miano, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife.
Global Tourism Resilience Day serves as an international platform to honor institutions and stakeholders that have demonstrated leadership and impact in strengthening tourism systems against shocks such as climate change, pandemics and security challenges.
Kenya made history as the first African country to host the global event.
The award recognized joint efforts by the Uganda Consulate in Mombasa and its partners in advancing marine conservation, strengthening shared crisis response mechanisms and promoting cooperative coastal destination management between Uganda and Kenya.
According to the Consulate, the recognition underscores Uganda’s expanding role in regional tourism promotion and its commitment to building resilient tourism systems that benefit both nations and the wider East African region.
The Uganda–Kenya Coast Collaboration was initiated in 2022 by the Uganda Consulate in Mombasa to promote tourism exchange between Uganda and Kenya.
Since its inception, the number of Kenyans visiting Uganda has increased, attributed to improved visibility and marketing of Uganda’s tourism products through the cross-border initiative.
